Gill Hands was born in Wales but has lived most of her life in rural West Cumbria She studied English and History for three years with the misguided notion of becoming a teacher but ended up becoming a mother and working in a variety of part time jobs, from nuclear fuels accounting to mystery shopping by way of job club assistant.

She has published two Beginner’s Guides for Hodder and Stoughton: one on Marx and the other on Darwin. She has written poetry all her life but only came out as a poet when she joined Wild Women, was published in anthologies and began performing. Her poetry reflects her wide ranging interests: drumming, folklore, web design, digital art and erotica among others. It explores themes of childhood sexuality, fetishes and the impact of new technology on our emotional lives.
