Richard O’Neill was born and brought up in a large Romany family in the North of England and learned his storytelling skills from some of the best Travelling storytellers in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. He has been a full time professional storyteller and writer since 2004. He delivers sessions in over 100 primary, secondary and special schools a year across the country, developing a range of projects helping to improve literacy, attendance, transition, inclusion and entrepreneurship. He was recently awarded the title of 'National Literacy Hero'. He is the author of nine children’s books and his stories and plays have been broadcast on Radio 4, radio 3 and the world service. His latest novel for children ‘Time Cat and the Missing Pie Oven’ has been described as ‘Wallace and Gromit meets Sherlock Holmes’. His novel ‘Fabulous Mr Ford’ has been selected as the text for Worcestershire 2014. He is currently the writer in residence at both Babington College and Medway Primary school in Leicester.
