Brian Jacques, author of the acclaimed Redwall series has written both poetry and music, but began his writing career in earnest as a playwright. His three stage plays Brown Bitter, Wet Nellies, and Scouse have been performed at Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre.
He wrote his first novel, Redwall, for the children at a school for the blind in Liverpool. Since 1986, his descriptive style of writing has captivated readers from age 8 to 80. His books have won international awards and acclaim and have been made into a TV series.


He was a regular on BBC Radio Merseyside, where he shared his comedy and wit, and played his favourites from the world of opera , but he is best known for his Redwall series for children.
In 2005 Brian was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Literature by the University of Liverpool (D Lit. hons) and in 2008 he was made a Fellow of the English Literature faculty of Liverpool John Moores University. He still lives in Liverpool and writes every day, continuing the adventures of his Redwall Saga.
