The Manchester Guardian was founded by John Edward Taylor in 1821, two years after the Peterloo Massacre. Under the editorship of the legendary Charles Prestwich Scott, it was transformed from an essentially provincial journal into a newspaper of national and international standing - laying the foundations for the character of the Guardian as we know it today. This collection encounter will focus upon correspondence between Scott, and the famous and renowned individuals with whom he exchanged letters regarding momentous events of the early 20th century. Free exhibition. 2 - 4pm [email protected]
