Comma Press' acclaimed series of new writing anthologies have earned a reputation for showcasing the best emerging short story talent in the UK, and the latest edition, Brace, is no exception.

Tonight's launch kicks off at 6pm, with screenings of short film adaptations of stories and poems commissioned by Comma Film, to get you in the mood. Then at 7pm, there'll be readings by three of the Brace authors:

Manchester's Annie Clarkson is a poet, social worker and short story writer. Her collection of prose poems Winter Hands was recently published by Shadowtrain Books. 'Lindy', her contribution to the Brace anthology, is a beautifully controlled study of exploitation and coercion.

Rising star of UK indie literature, Chris Killen is a graduate of The University of Manchester's MA in Creative Writing course. His first novel The Bird Room will be published by Canongate in spring 2009. He also writes a blog: www.dayofmoustaches.blogspot.com

Guy Ware is a short story writer of rare talent, who's been widely published in prize collections and anthologies, and is a regular contributor to the acclaimed “Tales of the Decongested” story readings at Foyles book shop in London.

About the Brace anthology:

...Organ-playing wunderkinds, poets on government re-employment schemes, unlikely celebrity party guests...

While these stories take in a vast array of subjects and styles, they have one thing in common: they demand our participation, urging us to fill in the blanks, the spaces between the words. Whether it's a concealed motivation, a mysterious confederation of the familiar and the far-fetched, or an image with the eloquence to convey what a character could never articulate, it's their very reticence that makes them so compelling.

More about the Brace anthology.

As if that wasn't enough, there'll also be free wine, and possibly even some nibbles.
