Spike

Spike is one of those publishers that proves that independents can not only be on a par with any major equivalent in terms of the quality of what it publishes, but can often be well ahead of them. For over a decade Spike has been discovering and establishing some of the best poets in the country on limited resources. Poets like Glyn Wright and Jean Sprackland published their first collections with Spike before being taken on by major publishers like Jonathan Cape and Bloodaxe. Both won recognition while still with Spike though - Glyn Wright’s debut won the Aldeburgh First Collection Prize and was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize, while Jean Sprackland’s was shortlisted for the Forward First Collection Prize and and she too has since been shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize.
Unlike the Windows Project (its distributor), Spike also publishes fiction.
