David Gaffney launches his latest novel, All The Places I’ve Ever Lived, with readings of extracts and a book signing. If you’ve heard either of David’s pre-launch readings (first at Verbose and then at Bad Language), fear not – tonight’s event features different passages from the tome, out on Urbane Publications. It also features loads of other entertainment, literary and otherwise.
Described as “David Peace meets Murakami” in a “mash-up of Twin Peaks weirdness”, All The Places I’ve Ever Lived is part murder ballad, part ghost story, part true crime, and takes the reader on a gripping journey from the small-town murder of a teenage girl in the 1970s to the terrifying real-life shootings in Whitehaven, West Cumbria, 40 years later. Award-winning novelist Jenn Ashworth calls the writing “elliptical, sharp, witty and dazzling”.
Also on the bill for the official launch party is avant, experimental, cutting-edge poet Tom Jenks (one third of The Other Room), and there will be live electric music by lit-band Hot Shorts (pictured), featuring Chris Killen and Lara Williams (formerly of PINS), plus a DJ set by Monkeys In Love – think Italian porn soundtracks, industrial musicals and other exotic tunes.
With Mexican vegan chow and wine on the menu, this promises to be a great night, and a little away from the live lit norm. And it’s free as well!
